With data spread across multiple siloed sources, one global geotechnical specialist contractor was losing time and money managing its increasingly complex operations and IT environment.
Furthermore, the organization lacked an in-house data team that could ensure the right data was accessible by the right people at the right time.
The organization required:
- Stronger data governance would enable the efficient identification of sensitive elements in the data
- Visibility into where data was coming from—and whether it could be trusted
- An intuitive Project Management Dashboard that would empower stakeholders to manage and track work at the project and site level

Solution:
Leveraging the Microsoft DPi30 program, the company chose Neudesic to create a data strategy and long-term roadmap to help the company access, govern, and get more use from its data. Neudesic helped implement the following strategy:
- Design & deployment of a modern data platform on Azure Synapse
- Create & define a data governance strategy, using Microsoft Purview to provide unified data governance, with an initial focus on the Data Lineage, Biz Glossary, & Data Catalog features
- Merging business and financial data to create a business user-friendly Project Management Dashboard that provides insights on 1) Costs and forecasts, 2) Profitability, revenue, billing, material cost, labor cost and equipment cost, 3) Safety at the site level, including incident tracking and visibility for PMs and 4) Analytics for projects​
Benefits:
Due to a successful deployment of a modern data platform and data governance strategy for the North American Division, the company plans to implement a global adoption of Microsoft Azure Synapse and Microsoft Purview. So far, the strategy is paying off:
