IBM Neudesic Collaborates with Microsoft to Bring Multi-Agent AI Intelligence to Energy Field Workers

Mar 23, 2026ย  |ย  Two Minutes

New Microsoft Azure-based agentic AI solution accelerator applies advanced AI to replace manual field operation workflows, improving safety, reducing downtime, and empowering frontline energy workers with a digital assistant.

IRVINE, Calif. โ€” March 23, 2026 โ€” IBM Neudesic, in collaboration with Microsoft, today announced AI Field Operations Assistant, a new AI-powered solution accelerator designed to transform how energy companies support field technicians working across critical infrastructure.

Built on Microsoft Foundry, the solution uses agentic AI, voice-enabled guidance, and contextual asset intelligence to help frontline workers resolve issues faster, improve safety, and streamline field documentation.

Operators across energy, utilities, and other asset-intensive industries face mounting challenges including aging infrastructure, workforce shortages, increasing safety requirements, and fragmented operational data. AI Field Operations Assistant embeds intelligent assistance directly into field workflows, enabling technicians to access critical knowledge, follow guided procedures, and capture operational data in real time.

The solution integrates with enterprise asset management systems including IBM Maximo, SAP, and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Field Service, bringing AI-driven operational guidance directly into existing maintenance and reliability processes.

โ€œAs global energy demand accelerates and infrastructure systems are pushed harder than ever, energy operators must unlock new levels of productivity, safety, and asset resilience in the field,โ€ said Mike Rossi, Senior Vice President at IBM Neudesic. โ€œAI Field Operations Assistant demonstrates the power of applied AIโ€”bringing Azureโ€™s advanced AI capabilities directly to frontline technicians as a real-time digital reliability engineer within their existing workforce systems. By putting instant expertise, intelligent guidance, and hands-free documentation into the hands of field crews, weโ€™re helping energy companies reduce downtime, extend asset life, and operate critical infrastructure with greater confidence.โ€

Agentic AI Designed for the Energy Field Workforce

AI Field Operations Assistant introduces a multi-agent AI architecture designed to support technicians throughout the lifecycle of field workโ€”from job preparation to repair and reporting.

The platform functions as an AI-powered reliability engineer in the field, coordinating tasks, surfacing relevant operational knowledge, and delivering real-time guidance while reducing administrative workload for technicians.

Delivered as a solution accelerator, the architecture provides organizations with a practical entry point for adopting responsible agent orchestration at scale. By clearly defining agent roles, actions, and performance, the accelerator helps organizations improve transparency, build trust in AI systems, and operationalize agent-based workflows across complex field environments.

Sample embedded AI agents include:

  • Parts and Logistics Agents โ€“ Coordinate inventory and supply chain systems to ensure technicians arrive on site with the correct tools, parts, and documentation. Agents analyze inventory in real time, reserve components, and integrate with EAM systems to automate parts transfers and logistics.
  • Job Workflow Agents โ€“ Guides technicians through inspection, maintenance, and repair procedures using contextual knowledge drawn from manuals, standard operating procedures, historical work orders, and operational data.
  • Documentation Agents โ€“ Captures voice notes, observations, images, and asset data to automatically generate structured reports and update enterprise systems–improving data quality and enabling better future incident response.

Built on Microsoftโ€™s Secure AI and Cloud Platform

AI Field Operations Assistant is built on Microsoft Azure, leveraging:

  • Microsoft Foundry for conversational AI and reasoning
  • Foundry IQ (Azure AI Search) for secure retrieval of operational knowledge
  • Foundry Agent Service for enterprise agent orchestration
  • Azure integration services to connect operational technology and enterprise systems

โ€œAI is enabling organizations to empower frontline workers with intelligent tools that improve safety and productivity,โ€ said Darryl Willis, Corporate Vice President, Energy & Resources Industry at Microsoft. โ€œBy building on Microsoft Foundry, IBM Neudesic is helping energy companies unlock greater value from their operational data while improving workforce efficiency.โ€

Live Demonstration at CERAWeek 2026

IBM Neudesic and Microsoft will showcase AI Field Operations Assistant with live demonstrations during CERAWeek 2026 at Microsoft Agora House, March 23โ€“27 in Houston.

Energy leaders attending the event can experience firsthand how agentic AI and applied AI solutions are reshaping field operations across the global energy industry.
